Hannaway Blacksmith Shop

Description: The original shop, begun in 1880, was donated by Hannaway’s family to the Town of Lincoln and moved to this site in 1989. Today, the traditions of turn-of-the-century blacksmithing have returned. The original tools used by William Hannaway over 100 years ago hang once again in the shop. Stop by on Saturday or Sunday mornings and you’ll hear the sound of the anvil and odor of coal and hot steel returned to the Hannaway Shop in 2004, as turn-of-the-century blacksmithing demonstrations and classes take place.

Description: The New England School of Metalwork is a full 501 C3 non-profit educational facility devoted to the promotion and strengthening of metalworking skills. Started in 2000 and located in Auburn, Maine, the concept of the school was developed by Maine Oxy, a local welding distributor and Dereck Glaser, a local artisan metalsmith. After several years of individuals inquiring about welding skills and ornamental metalwork instruction the decision was made to build the school. We set to the task of designing and planning a dual purpose facility for metalsmithing and welding.

South County Museum

Description: Come to the South County Museum, where Rhode Island’s coastal legacy has been celebrated since 1933. Here you can explore a rich heritage of rural and coastal life. Our beautiful seven-acre campus is in a 174-acre town park that was the 19th-century estate of Rhode Island’s Civil War-era governor and postwar senator, William Sprague. Explore history in the one-room schoolhouse, carriage barn and carpentry shop. Watch artisans at work in the blacksmith shop and print shop.
