Hannaway Blacksmith Shop

Description: The original shop, begun in 1880, was donated by Hannaway’s family to the Town of Lincoln and moved to this site in 1989. Today, the traditions of turn-of-the-century blacksmithing have returned. The original tools used by William Hannaway over 100 years ago hang once again in the shop. Stop by on Saturday or Sunday mornings and you’ll hear the sound of the anvil and odor of coal and hot steel returned to the Hannaway Shop in 2004, as turn-of-the-century blacksmithing demonstrations and classes take place.

Started in 2000 and located in Auburn, Maine, the concept of the school was developed by Maine Oxy, a local welding distributor and Dereck Glaser, a local artisan metalsmith. After several years of individuals inquiring about welding skills and ornamental metalwork instruction the decision was made to build the school.
